Frequently Asked Questions

Please contact us at info@internationalpeacesociety.org.uk if you cannot find an answer to your question.

The mission of The International Society for the Promotion of Permanent & Universal Peace Blog is to advocate for peace and nonviolent solutions to societal problems worldwide, but more specifically:

  • To serve as a platform for sharing information and discussions related to international peace, with an emphasis on disarmament, conflict prevention, and nonviolence. Ideally the blog will explore various topics, including the principles of peacebuilding, international cooperation, and the promotion of a more peaceful and just global community
  • To inform and educate: Share knowledge on the history, theories, and contemporary practices of international peacebuilding, disarmament, and nonviolence
  • To share experiences: personal stories, overcoming trauma and exploring inner peace, especially after experiencing devastating life circumstances
  • To highlight Peace related travel destinations: Peace travel blogging! Finding and sharing places important to the history of peace efforts and/or current peace efforts
  • To foster discussion: Encourage dialogue and critical thinking both domestically in the UK and internationally about the causes of conflict and the paths to sustainable peace through articles, guest posts, and commentary
  •  To build community: Connect individuals and groups interested in peace and human rights, creating a space for shared learning and action
  •  To support current peace efforts: Highlight and amplify the work of organizations and individuals dedicated to peace and security, especially building on the historical legacy of peace movements

No we do not accept donations. We are an online Peace Blog and Meetup Group only. There are no member dues or fees to join the Meetup Group and the Blog Page is not monetised, we do not allow advertisers to showcase their ads on the website because the cause of the Peace Blog is charitable and ads on the page would distract from our mission and make for a less pleasant viewing experience for our website visitors. No one (including the founder or co-founder) is getting paid to submit these Peace Blogs, all Peace Blogs are on a voluntary unpaid basis and we do not monetise this page.  We are not accepting or asking for donations. If we become a registered charity in the future this may change but currently we are not accepting or asking for donations.

No - we are a social project consisting of an online Peace Blog and Meetup Group in Manchester only at the moment. We aspire to become a registered charity in the future but currently we are not a charity.

No not currently.

We host a variety of events throughout the year, if you are based in Manchester or visiting Manchester please consider joining the Manchester IPS Meetup Group and check the Manchester IPS Meetup Group page for more information.

Currently we are not seeking volunteers unless you want to submit a Peace Blog post or become a co-organiser for the Manchester Meetup Group. For more information email: info@internationalpeacesociety.org.uk

No we don't have employees and we aren't hiring. If we become a registered charity in future this may change but currently no, please keep in mind we are still in the founding stages and the process of setting up a charity is very time intensive and expensive. It may be some time before we become a registered charity. But in the meantime you are welcome to peruse our website including the Peace Blog & our Facebook page or join the Manchester Meetup group if you are in Manchester.

Please visit our "Contribute to the Blog" page for more information if you are interested in submitting your writing to be considered by the IPS Peace Blog.

Our Society is built on a foundation of compassion, integrity, inclusivity and accountability. We are fundamentally opposed to war (anti-war) and pacifist, we believe violence does not solve deeper societal problems which contribute to conflicts. Violence is not the answer. We are also eco-conscious and acknowledge there are climate and nature emergencies currently ongoing. We believe in treating everyone with dignity and respect. We are a non-denominational Society welcoming people of all genders, all orientations, all faiths, or no faith (including atheists and agnostics) and people from all nationalities and backgrounds. We aim for this to be a safe space.

We do however ask that visitors to the Peace Blog and members of the Manchester International Peace Society Meetup Group treat each other with respect. Any violent, aggressive, threatening, abusive (including emotional abuse and coercive control), criminal or dangerous behaviour can be blocked, removed and reported to the relevant authorities and online platform. Scammers can be reported also.

The Community Guidelines list prohibited content and behaviours. Action taken could involve content removal, warnings and account suspensions blocking a user/s from the site. In the case of illegal activity this will be reported to the relevant authorities which could include local or international police (e.g. INTERPOL), the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC), Action Fraud & Internet Watch Foundation (IWF).

Visitors to the online Peace Blog or Meetup Members that need to make a report can discreetly make a report via our "Make a Report" page which can be found on the header or footer of the IPS homepage.

The original Peace Society had a majority Quaker/Christian membership. The 21st Century version of the IPS is not religious specifically, though we will explore perspectives of peace from different religions, organisations, charities and individuals committed to peace, especially peace between Nations and nonviolent solutions to problems. The short answer is no we are not religious, we do not ascribe to a particular religion, but we explore varying perspectives on peace from different angles. We are a non-denominational Society welcoming people of all genders, all orientations, all faiths, or no faith (including atheists and agnostics) and people from all nationalities and backgrounds. The founder Cindy is agnostic. You do not need to be religious to submit any Peace Blog writing to the IPS. Anyone who wants peace is welcome.

The founding date for the modern 21st Century IPS was the 17th of October 2024. The Founder is Cindy Baxter & Co-Founder is David.

Cindy is extremely concerned about the possibility of WWIII and the escalation and/or continuation of current conflicts. Cindy is a descendant of the English Peace Family on the maternal side of her family. When Cindy was researching her own ancestry she came across the information about the original IPS and as a descendant of the Peace Family she was inspired to re-start that which was so valuable in the 19th Century but which was somehow sadly lost to history and mostly forgotten about. Cindy has made sure that the IPS is definitely not forgotten about in the 21st Century, especially during these very trying times. We can all learn something important from the original IPS and this successor version to the original IPS aspires to eventually be as valuable as the original.

No the 21st Century founder has not made a mistake, "international" was added to the beginning of the original name on purpose to accurately represent the mission of the 21st Century version of the Society as being international. This Peace Blog is international. To pay respect to the original name of the Society the full name of the 21st Century version is the International Society for the Promotion of Permanent & Universal Peace - or - The International Peace Society (IPS) which is the nickname for the Society.

The original IPS was made defunct in the 20th Century sadly. Until more recently the IPS wasn't well known and many people were not aware of the amazing peace legacy of this historical British Peace Society. When Cindy was considering re-opening this Society (as a descendant of the English Peace family) she contacted the Charities Commission for England & Wales to check if it was permissible to re-open the Society and was advised that if there was no current Society registered under the name (which there wasn't at the time) then it was permitted. As a descendant of the English Peace family Cindy wishes to claim the Peace family's legacy, especially given the volatility of current international relations and the risk of more future wars, and is working towards this social project eventually becoming a registered charity in the future.

This IPS Peace Blog went live online on the 19/10/2025.
